“Stay Up Here!” — Pastor Chris Urges Believers to Set Their Minds on Higher Realities

In a deeply stirring sermon, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome called on Christians to lift their perspective and reject fear, confusion, and demonic harassment. Echoing Colossians 3:1–2, he stressed that those who have been raised with Christ must "seek those things which are above" and set their affections on heavenly realities.

“Hey, hey, hey—my head! Jesus!” he mimicked, describing the frantic cries of some believers who experience torment and panic attacks. But according to Pastor Chris, such reactions reflect spiritual immaturity and a misalignment with one’s position in Christ.

He explained that many Christians unknowingly “give demons a building” when they focus on fear and react carnally to attacks. But the mature Christian—rooted in identity and understanding—lives above such experiences.

“You’re just giving demons a building,” he said. “Christians don’t behave like that. That’s for babes and the cunner.”

Drawing from Colossians 3:1–2, Pastor Chris urged believers to maintain a heavenly consciousness, which places them far above the enemy’s reach:

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

He used a vivid analogy to stress his point:

“A cat caught a bird. What is a bird doing in the mouth of a cat? Where were your wings?”

His message: Birds fly, cats crawl. So why should a Christian—raised with Christ—be caught “crawling” in fear, worry, and demonic oppression?

“What are you doing on the ground? Why crawling? Set your affections above!” he declared.

In closing, Pastor Chris encouraged the congregation to say to one another:
“Stay up here. Don’t go down there. You don’t belong there.”
