Ghanaians React As Mahama Says Nobody Should Ask Okyere Baafi To Resign Since He Has Apologized

Awudu Mahama, Managing News Editor of The Custodian Newspaper, has openly defended Hon. Okyere Baafi, asserting that calls for the MP’s resignation are completely unjustified.

In an interview with the press, Mahama condemned the growing agitation from certain quarters, describing the resignation demands as hasty and without foundation. He explained that critics have overlooked the broader governance environment in which Okyere Baafi serves.

Mahama stressed that in a true democracy, any assessment of an elected official’s performance must go through legitimate political and legal frameworks. He argued that resignation should only arise from credible, evidence-based misconduct not from emotion, partisan sentiment, or isolated events.

He insisted that in this particular case, there is no constitutional or moral reason for Okyere Baafi to vacate his seat. On the contrary, Mahama praised the MP’s track record, citing his visible impact on both local and national development.

He urged the public to approach issues of leadership with fairness and objectivity, warning that rash decisions driven by emotions could harm democratic governance.

Mahama concluded by advising the media and citizens to pursue accountability responsibly, through established democratic processes, rather than through unsubstantiated calls that threaten institutional stability.
