Renowned Ghanaian football journalist, Derek Katey Caesar, has shared heartbreaking news on his official Facebook page about the tragic death of young Senegalese footballer, Cheikh Touré, in Kumasi, Ghana.
According to Caesar’s post on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Cheikh Touré reportedly fell victim to a criminal network involved in fraud and extortion. The incident has shocked the football community across both Ghana and Senegal.
Cheikh Touré, a promising young footballer from Senegal, was said to have been deceived by individuals posing as football scouts. They allegedly promised to take him to Morocco for professional trials but instead brought him to Ghana, where he was kidnapped.
Reports suggest that the kidnappers demanded a ransom from his family in Senegal. Sadly, the family could not raise the amount requested, leading to a tragic end for the young player. His dream of becoming a professional footballer turned into a nightmare that cost him his life.
Derek Katey Caesar expressed deep sorrow over the incident and called for stronger measures to protect young African footballers from exploitation by fake agents and recruiters. He also urged authorities in Ghana and Senegal to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to ensure justice for the deceased and his family.
The Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that an investigation is underway, in collaboration with Ghanaian authorities, to uncover the full details of the case.
Football fans and sports figures across West Africa have since flooded social media with tributes, describing Cheikh Touré as a talented and humble player whose life was cut short by greed and deceit.
May his soul rest in peace.
