Good News As President Mahama Finally Approves 5% Salary Raise For Public Sector Workers

President John Dramani Mahama has finally approved a 5% salary increase for public sector workers, bringing a wave of mixed reactions across the country. The new increment, which replaces the earlier 2.5% proposal, comes after several weeks of negotiations between the government and labour unions demanding fairer wages amid Ghana’s rising cost of living.

The announcement has sparked both relief and frustration. Many public workers, including teachers, nurses, and civil servants, have welcomed the raise as a sign that their concerns were finally heard. Others, however, argue that the 5% increment still falls short of expectations, given the harsh economic realities of inflation, increased taxes, and the persistent surge in fuel and food prices.

Speaking on the decision, President Mahama described it as a “necessary balance between sustaining the economy and protecting the welfare of workers.” He emphasized that the government remains committed to reviewing salaries periodically as the economy stabilizes.

Despite the mixed reactions, the announcement has rekindled hope among thousands of public servants who have endured stagnant wages for years. Many see it as a small but meaningful step toward restoring trust between workers and government.
