The haul, which is under investigation, includes:

  • 46 cable drums

  • Electrical switches

  • Meter boxes and cases

  • Iron angle bars

  • Other key materials used in power distribution infrastructure

Security sources say the recovered components are suspected to be part of missing ECG supplies, raising serious concerns about misappropriation within the utility’s supply chain.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case and are currently assisting with investigations.

Hashim Torkonu, the lead National Security operative on the case, spoke to Channel One News, noting that the circumstances surrounding the location and the storage of the items suggest foul play.

“The stocks here are different from what we uncovered previously in a private residence. That case is still under investigation, but inconsistencies in statements are making things more complex,” Torkonu stated.

He added that no one has officially claimed ownership of the newly discovered items. The Regional Security Coordinator is expected to contact national headquarters in Accra for directives on how to proceed.

When questioned, local residents claimed they were unaware of the materials and could not identify who had stored them in the uncompleted structure.

One of the suspects, Evans Lartey, identified himself as a certified ECG contractor, asserting his innocence.

“I’ve done legitimate work for ECG. I supply meters and cables under official contracts,” Lartey told investigators.

The case adds to growing concerns over asset leakage and theft within Ghana’s power sector. Authorities are currently verifying documentation and contracts to determine if the materials were acquired legally or diverted from ECG's official supply chains.

The Electricity Company of Ghana is yet to release an official statement on the seizure.
