Afenyo-Markin opens up about his faith, revealing a desire to serve God in ministry if he leaves politics. |
In the heartfelt interview, Afenyo-Markin opened up about his life’s journey, marked by struggle, resilience, and unshakeable faith. Despite rising through Ghana’s political ranks, the lawmaker says his true calling lies in ministry.
“If I stop being a politician today, one thing I’m certain of doing is to go into ministry. I have been dreaming about it. I see myself preaching the word of God,” he affirmed.
1. A Calling Beyond Politics
The Effutu MP shared that the desire to preach has always been rooted in him, even during his time as a student at St. Augustine’s College. His passion for spiritual service is not a recent development but a dream he has nurtured quietly over the years.
2. Faith Through Life’s Hardships
Afenyo-Markin revealed that his strong faith was born from hardship. He candidly spoke about living in poverty, staying with friends after school, and even working as a “mate” (bus conductor) to survive. These challenges, he says, did not weaken him but strengthened his belief in God.
3. Politics and Preaching Can Coexist
The seasoned lawmaker believes that serving in politics does not conflict with spiritual life. “As a politician, nothing should stop me from sharing the word of God with people,” he said, insisting that leadership and faith can go hand-in-hand.
The MP's emotional recollections included stories about his stepfather’s support, who always prayed with him and encouraged him spiritually during key moments in his life.

“I remember when I was going to secondary school, he would hold my hand, pray for me, and weep,” he recalled emotionally.
Afenyo-Markin’s honesty and vulnerability struck a chord with many who see him only through the lens of politics. His revelation paints a more holistic image—a man not just committed to governance but also devoted to serving a higher purpose.
In an age where public figures often avoid discussions about faith, Afenyo-Markin’s reflections are refreshing. They highlight the importance of spirituality as a grounding force, even in the high-pressure world of politics.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s story is a testament to resilience, humility, and spiritual purpose. As he continues to serve the people of Effutu and lead in Parliament, it’s clear that his heart is equally invested in one day leading from the pulpit.
