Lagos, Nigeria – Renowned televangelist and founder of LoveWorld Incorporated, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has delivered a stirring message urging Christians to seek financial prosperity, not just for themselves, but so they can help uplift others.
Speaking to a live congregation, Pastor Chris used a simple but striking demonstration to drive home his message: that those at the bottom of the economic ladder cannot help others unless they first rise themselves.
“Down people can’t help down people,” Pastor Chris said emphatically.
“Only up people can help down people come up. So, you’ve got to go up.”
During the sermon, Pastor Chris invited two people on stage, asking them to sit on the floor. He then instructed one to help the other stand — to no avail. When he allowed one person to rise first, they were able to help the other.
“You see? Only someone who is up can pull another up,” he explained.
“If you’re not prosperous, you can’t help anybody else.”
The analogy served as a metaphor for spiritual and financial prosperity, showing that success isn’t just personal — it’s a tool to serve others.
Pastor Chris challenged his audience to break free from limiting beliefs around wealth, pointing out that many people remain poor because they assume poverty is humility or virtue. He countered this by stressing that God elevates people to empower them to lift others.
“We’re feeding a lot of poor people, sending many to school, giving out scholarships, and building schools and clean water systems in different communities,” he said.
“If we were in their shoes, we couldn’t do any of that.”
He added that the government alone cannot solve poverty, and the Church must rise to the occasion. Christians, he said, must learn to say, “Lord, I want to help,” and trust God to open the path to abundance and influence.
The message has been praised by many followers for its practical wisdom, especially in a time when economic hardship is affecting millions globally. Critics, however, caution that prosperity must be balanced with humility and not turn into materialism disguised as ministry.
Nonetheless, Pastor Chris’s core message remains: True impact comes from elevation — spiritual, emotional, and financial.
