I have lost hope, but Prez Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama are helping me – Onaapo hitmaker Dee Aja reveals his battle with kidney disease

Dee Aja, the musician behind the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) famous 2016 campaign song Onaapo, has revealed he is battling a serious kidney condition.

Speaking in an interview with Pendream TV, the singer shared how the illness has disrupted his daily life and forced him into frequent medical check-ups.

Despite the severity of his condition, he said he has managed to maintain a healthy physical appearance, something doctors themselves have described as surprising.

“God has made it possible for my health not to deteriorate rapidly, even though my condition has worsened,” Dee Aja explained, noting that his physique often concealed the struggles he faced internally.

The singer disclosed that his public appeal for help drew a swift response from President John Dramani Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama, who reached out to him directly.

“I am very grateful to President Mahama and other NDC officials who called to sympathise with me and offer support. At a point, I had lost hope, but their encouragement and help gave me strength,” he said.

According to Dee Aja, the Mahama family and other NDC members have pledged to support his kidney transplant surgery and recovery process.

He admitted that without his personal ties to the party, he might have faced far greater difficulties in seeking treatment.

The Onaapo hitmaker, whose song became a defining anthem in Ghana’s political campaign history, said he is holding onto faith as he continues his fight against the illness.
