Ghana Police Service Refutes Rumours About IGP's Death, Says He Is Still Alive And Working

The Ghana Police Service has released an important message to the public after rumours started spreading that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, had passed away. The Police Service has described these rumours as false and advised everyone to ignore them.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 30th November, 2025, the Police Service made it clear that the IGP is alive, healthy, and performing his official duties without any problems. According to the statement, there is no truth in the reports suggesting that Mr. Yohuno is dead, and the public should treat such claims with the contempt they deserve.

The Police Service explained that it became necessary to respond because the rumours were spreading fast, especially on social media. They said these false reports have caused confusion and unnecessary fear among some Ghanaians, including officers within the service and family members of the IGP. The statement assured everyone that there is no cause for alarm.

The Police also used the opportunity to warn people who are behind such misleading information. They described the rumours as malicious, insensitive, and irresponsible. According to the Police, sharing false information about the death of a public official is not only wrong but also an offence under Ghanaian law. Anyone found guilty of creating or spreading such lies will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Service encouraged Ghanaians to rely on credible sources for information, especially when it concerns national security and public officers. They also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified stories that can mislead others or create unnecessary tension.

The statement ended by assuring the nation that the Inspector-General of Police is fully at post and continues to work hard to ensure safety, law, and order across the country. The Police Service asked citizens to remain calm and continue supporting the work of the security agencies.

This clarification is expected to put an end to the rumours and bring relief to the public, especially those who were worried about the health and safety of the IGP.
