"Where Is The NPP Now?" - Ghanaians Question Party's Silence Over Ken Ofori-Atta's ICE Detention

Concerned members of the public are raising questions about the silence of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the ongoing situation involving former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, particularly the lack of official communication from state authorities.

According to comments aired on Okay 101.7 FM on Friday January 9, 2026, some Ghanaians are asking when the NPP leadership and its Members of Parliament might mobilise support at the offices of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) or the International Crimes Enforcement (ICE) office, similar to the public demonstrations that took place at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) during the detention of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and other party members.

The concerns stem from the fact that, unlike previous high-profile cases, authorities have not issued a clear official statement on the current status of Ken Ofori-Atta. This has led to speculation and uncertainty among party supporters and the general public, with many calling for transparency and timely communication from the relevant institutions.

Political analysts note that the NPP has in the past been quick to show solidarity with its key figures during investigations or detentions. The absence of a similar public response in this case has therefore sparked debate about whether the party is adopting a different approach or waiting for further clarification from investigative bodies.

Some party faithful believe that a peaceful show of support would reassure supporters and signal the party’s commitment to defending its members while respecting the rule of law. Others, however, argue that the NPP should allow due process to take its course without public pressure on state institutions.

As discussions continue, many Ghanaians are urging authorities to provide clear and factual updates on the Ken Ofori-Atta situation to prevent misinformation and ease public tension. They also expect political parties to act responsibly, balancing public interest with respect for legal processes.

The situation remains under close public scrutiny as citizens await official communication and any possible response from the NPP leadership.
