Shock and Outrage as Choreography Teacher Gets 6-Year Jail Term for Assaulting Seven Kids in Twifo-Heman

A Twifo Hemang District Court has sentenced a 50-year-old choreography instructor, Eric Adu Amissah, to six years in prison after he was found guilty of assaulting seven young girls under his care at a cultural dance school in Twifo-Heman, Heman Lower Denkyira District.

The verdict, delivered by Presiding Judge Maxwell Ofori Kpodo, followed Adu Amissah’s guilty plea to multiple counts of indecent assault.

According to Prosecutor Chief Inspector Joseph Kussah, the convicted instructor took advantage of his position as a trusted dance teacher to exploit his young students, all between the ages of six and seven.

Investigations revealed that Adu Amissah used deceptive tactics to lure his victims, including offering them snacks and drinks. His predatory behavior came to light when several of the victims fell ill and, upon medical examination, disclosed the abuse to their parents.

Following his initial arrest, Adu Amissah was granted bail but went into hiding for six months, delaying the legal proceedings. However, a coordinated effort by the Central North Regional Police Cyber Unit led to his capture in Adenta, Greater Accra Region.

On March 5, 2025, the Twifo Hemang District Magistrate’s Court found him guilty on all counts of indecent assault. He was convicted based on his own plea and subsequently sentenced to six years in prison.

Authorities have urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving children to law enforcement. Child rights advocates have also called for stricter measures to protect minors from such predatory individuals.
