Stephen Amoah Defends NPP’s Economic Record, Challenges Mahama’s Claims

Former Deputy Finance Minister and Nhyiaeso MP, Stephen Amoah, has strongly defended the economic record of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, insisting that the party left behind a robust and growing economy for the John Dramani Mahama-led government to build upon.

Speaking ahead of the 2025 budget presentation, Amoah dismissed accusations of economic mismanagement under the NPP, asserting that the policies and financial strategies implemented by the previous administration had positioned Ghana for sustained growth.

"We Left a Strong Economy"

The Nhyiaeso lawmaker highlighted that under the NPP, Ghana’s GDP grew by 5.7% in 2024, a figure he described as a significant achievement demonstrating the strength of the economy at the time of transition.

“I believe Cassiel Ato Forson is going to present a budget of continuity because what we left for them at the end of 2024 is positive, and he will come and present them.”

Amoah further urged the new administration to acknowledge the economic progress made under the NPP rather than attempting to discredit it.

“Our economic figures have started doing well, and so we expect them to accept the fact that we did not leave them a comatose economy for them to manage as President John Dramani Mahama is claiming.”

He called on the government to be truthful to Ghanaians and recognize the contributions of the NPP administration, urging them to continue the policies that had already laid the foundation for economic recovery.

As the nation awaits the 2025 budget presentation, the debate over Ghana’s economic trajectory under different administrations remains a key political talking point.
