Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament (MP), Sam George, has called on Alexander Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu, to issue an apology for what he described as disrespectful remarks about National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs. Afenyo-Markin allegedly suggested that some NDC MPs attend parliamentary sessions merely to create noise, a statement that has sparked outrage within the opposition caucus.

Sam George Demands Apology from Afenyo-Markin Over NDC MPs Remarks |
Sam George condemned the remarks, stating that such comments undermine parliamentary decorum and the dignity of elected representatives. He further urged Afenyo-Markin to retract his statement and issue a formal apology.
Escalating Tensions in Parliament
This latest incident adds to a growing history of conflict between the two legislators. In February 2025, during the vetting of ministerial nominees, Afenyo-Markin accused Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, the Clerk of the Appointments Committee, of partisanship in favor of the NDC. His comments sparked controversy, leading him to apologize publicly on the floor of Parliament to Jiagge-Gobah and her family.
Sam George has remained vocal in criticizing Afenyo-Markin’s conduct, previously describing his behavior as misogynistic and narcissistic. He argues that such attitudes do not reflect the values of parliamentary leadership and should be denounced by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
NDC Majority Caucus Joins Calls for Apology
Beyond Sam George’s personal demand, the NDC Majority Caucus has also insisted that Afenyo-Markin apologize for what they perceive as personal attacks on Speaker Alban Bagbin. The caucus accused him of abusing parliamentary protocols and disrespecting the Speaker through various media engagements.
These developments highlight the deepening tensions within Ghana’s Parliament and raise concerns about the need for civility, respect, and professionalism among lawmakers. Whether Afenyo-Markin will respond with an apology remains to be seen, but the incident underscores the increasing polarization within Ghana’s legislative body.
