Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin visits Ex-BoG Governor after shocking National Security raid |
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, around 5 a.m., heavily armed men, allegedly from the National Security Secretariat, stormed Dr. Addison’s private residence at Roman Ridge. Reports indicate that the operation was led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.
According to Joy News sources, about 15 soldiers, arriving in three separate vehicles, entered the premises forcefully. The operatives first disabled the CCTV system before confronting Dr. Addison, demanding to be led to supposed “vaults” hidden in the house.
However, Dr. Addison denied the existence of any such vaults or caches of money on his property. Despite his response, the operatives ransacked the residence, causing significant disarray.
When their search yielded no results, they reportedly called in National Security drivers to remove four of Dr. Addison’s vehicles, leaving only two behind. They also seized the CCTV monitor and control unit before departing.
Later that evening, Dr. Addison’s family was contacted and instructed to retrieve the seized vehicles, which had been parked opposite Jokers Club in Labadi.
Sources say that Dr. Addison and his family are deeply shaken by the incident, which has raised serious questions about the government’s handling of former high-ranking officials.
This raid comes just a month after a similar operation targeted the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
On February 11, 2025, a group of 12 operatives, including nine military personnel, allegedly entered Ofori-Atta’s residence in Accra without a warrant or prior notice.
At the time, Ofori-Atta was abroad for medical treatment, and the intrusion caused significant distress to his household staff while also damaging his public reputation.
Following the raid, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin visited Dr. Addison to offer his support and express concerns over what appears to be a targeted pattern of intimidation against former government officials.
Many political figures and civil society organizations have condemned these controversial security operations, calling for transparency and accountability from the government.
With growing fears about the use of National Security for political motives, critics argue that these incidents set a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s democracy.
As the political landscape remains tense, many are demanding answers regarding the true motives behind these raids and whether legal processes were followed in these high-profile operations.
