major accountability calls.

A joint investigative committee has uncovered 2,637 previously unaccounted-for containers consigned to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at the Tema Port, more than doubling the initial count of 1,300 containers reported earlier this year.

The startling revelation was confirmed by Richmond Rockson, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, during an exclusive interview with 3News, closely monitored by The Miraspect News.

As of April 30, 2025, the containers were located at various port terminals:

  • 📦 860 at Meridian Port Services (MPS)

  • 📦 1,237 at Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Terminals

  • 📦 272 already evacuated by National Security

  • 📦 194 at Amaris Terminal

  • 📦 20 at ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal

Shockingly, 2,437 of the containers had overstayed the 60-day clearance period, leading to significant demurrage fees—costs that could burden the already financially strained ECG and, by extension, taxpayers.

The committee comprises representatives from:

  • National Security

  • Ministry of Transport

  • Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA)

  • Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)

According to officials, investigations are ongoing to determine the reasons behind the lapse, how such a backlog occurred, and whether any internal misconduct contributed.

This situation raises serious accountability and operational efficiency concerns within one of Ghana’s most vital public utilities.
