Wontumi’s continued detention.

Tensions surrounding the ongoing detention of Chairman Wontumi by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) continue to rise, with the political atmosphere now laced with theatrics.

Former NPP Greater Accra Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, during a protest on May 29, 2025, threatened to lead a naked demonstration against the government, citing what he called an “unfair” and prolonged detention of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.

"If care is not taken, we are going to organise a naked demonstration in this country, because what is going on is not fair," he declared.

But in a surprising — and sarcastic — twist, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, NDC MP for Ada, said she was more than willing to participate, albeit for humorous reasons.

“They should just relax. I even heard they want to do a naked demo. For that one, I will join them… it means there’ll be a lot of things to watch,” she told Metro TV on May 30.

The comment, laced with irony, quickly sparked reactions across social media and within political circles.

Cudjoe-Ghansah, who also serves as the First Deputy Majority Whip, took the opportunity to stress the importance of due process and maturity in governance:

“They should rather cease fire so we can all enjoy the peace we’re currently enjoying… If you want to work in a government institution, being invited to the Police Headquarters, EOCO, NIB, and the rest is part of the package."

Chairman Wontumi has been in EOCO’s custody since May 27, 2025, facing serious charges including:

০ Fraud

০ Causing financial loss to the state

০ Money laundering

Despite being granted GH¢50 million bail, his legal team has yet to meet the stringent conditions, fueling protests and political tension.
