Pressure is mounting on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action following the viral video of Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the NDC, handing out U.S. dollars to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa.

The now-infamous footage shows Gyamfi beside a white Range Rover, handing over a bundle of dollar bills to Agradaa, who gleefully flaunts the cash. The public display, which went viral on social media, has since become a flashpoint in Ghana’s political discourse.

Former Ablekuma Central MP Ebenezer Nartey minced no words in his sharp rebuke of both Gyamfi and President Mahama. Speaking in a Joy Prime interview on May 12, 2025, Nartey stated emphatically:

“If Sammy Gyamfi remains in office by tomorrow, then President Mahama does not deserve to be president. He would be going against his own promises.”

Nartey framed the issue as a test of integrity for the Mahama administration, accusing the president of hypocrisy if no disciplinary action is taken.

The Minority caucus in Parliament echoed Nartey’s sentiments, issuing a strong statement condemning the act. Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, a member of the Finance Committee, addressed the media on May 12, labeling Gyamfi’s conduct as:

“Financial recklessness...a slap in the face of millions of Ghanaians battling inflation and economic hardship.”

The Minority called the incident a symbol of elite arrogance and government insensitivity, warning that inaction could deepen the erosion of public trust.

Ghanaians across social media platforms have also voiced their frustration, highlighting the stark contrast between Gyamfi’s flashy dollar handout and the current economic struggles facing ordinary citizens. Many argue that such behavior damages the credibility of public officeholders, especially amid rising inflation, high taxes, and currency depreciation.

Although Gyamfi has issued an apology claiming the funds were personal, critics argue that the gesture’s symbolic tone is problematic—especially from a high-ranking government official.
