Why You Must Take Education Seriously – Pastor Chris' Powerful Message to Youth

In a world where many are distracted by fleeting trends and short-term opportunities, one crucial foundation of personal growth is often overlooked—education. Some young people today have taken school lightly. They see it merely as a means to acquire a certificate for a job, and when they fail to see immediate rewards, they give up. But I want to encourage you: go to school. Not just for a certificate or a job, but to expand your mind and prepare yourself for a meaningful life. Go to school to enlighten your mind.

Pastor Chris urges young people to pursue education with purpose, calling it key to fulfilling destiny.

fulfilling destiny.

We live in a time when many political leaders are overwhelmed by economic challenges, national crises, and political tensions. As a result, education systems in many places are neglected or underfunded. But we must not blame these leaders entirely. Instead, we must take personal responsibility for our education. Just because the system isn’t perfect doesn’t mean your destiny should be limited by it. You must care about your education—even if no one else does.

It is important to understand that education does not necessarily make anyone rich. If that were the case, every graduate would be wealthy. So, when we say go to school, we’re not saying it’s a guaranteed pathway to financial riches. However, education does something even more valuable—it opens your mind. It teaches you how to think critically, how to question what you hear, how to find and interpret information, and how to position yourself to thrive in any environment.

School trains your mind. It inspires you to research, to analyze, and to reason beyond the surface. Even if your school doesn’t give you all the tools you need, it gives you the discipline and the curiosity to pursue knowledge on your own. And that is a skill that will stay with you for life.

Let me share an example. When Jesus said, “You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon you,” I was able to deeply understand that statement—not because I heard it in church alone, but because my education helped me reflect on it. I could ask, “What is power?” and find that power is the dynamic ability to cause change. That’s a more refined understanding, drawn not just from the spirit, but from a trained mind. Many people hear “power” and think only of politics, or brute strength, or influence. But education teaches you to go deeper. Jesus wasn’t talking about potential power—He was talking about real, working, dynamic power that produces results.

You see, this depth of understanding doesn’t just fall on you. It comes through study. It comes from an educated mind that is open, trained, and ready to receive from God. That’s why God chose Moses, a man educated in all the wisdom of Egypt. While the rest of the Israelites were in slavery with no formal education, Moses had a mind that was trained. And God used him mightily.

Even the Apostle Paul was educated. He studied under Gamaliel, one of the greatest teachers of the law in his time. That education gave Paul the ability to understand and communicate complex spiritual truths. The Holy Spirit could use his mind to write powerful letters that continue to shape Christian thought today. Imagine if Paul had no education—how would he have articulated such deep revelations?

But understand this: education doesn’t always mean going to a university or acquiring a PhD. In fact, the higher you go in academic studies, the more specialized you become. You may become so focused on one tiny area that you lose sight of the bigger picture. That’s why I often say true education is not knowing everything about one thing—it’s knowing a little about everything. This broad awareness helps you relate to the world around you, adapt to changing times, and communicate with all kinds of people.

Education can happen anywhere. If you can’t afford to attend a formal school, educate yourself. Go to the library. Read books. Use online resources. Ask questions. Watch documentaries. Study the world around you. Buy notebooks and write what you learn. Many of your parents or grandparents studied from home and earned their certificates through correspondence and distance learning. If they could do it then, you can do it now with even more resources available today.

And here's the key: discipline. If you develop personal discipline, your future is very bright. God can use a disciplined person more easily than someone who always needs to be pushed. You shouldn’t need someone to remind you to study, to pray, or to pursue your calling. God wants people who are self-motivated, who can lead themselves. If you can learn to say to yourself, “I’m going to study now,” and actually do it, you're already on your way to greatness.

Don’t be distracted. If your friends want to go out to parties, to watch football, to waste time—you must choose differently. Focus on your books, your purpose, and your personal growth. The sacrifices you make now will produce rewards later. Education is only for a season, but the benefits last a lifetime.

There is a danger in sleeping through your opportunity. What does it mean to “wake up in the evening”? It means you wasted the day—the season of opportunity—and now it’s too late. Don’t wake up in the evening. Wake up now. Use your time wisely. Prepare for the future. Because the day is short and the night is coming.

So, young man, young woman—go to school. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it. You are not going to school to get money—you are going so you’ll know what to do with money when it comes. You’re not going to school just to get a job—you are going so you can become a leader who creates jobs, solves problems, and changes lives.

In conclusion, the blessing of education cannot be overemphasized. Whether it’s formal or informal, pursue it passionately. It will refine your thinking, open your understanding, and position you to hear from God clearly. Learn. Grow. Expand. Because God is counting on you—not just to be spiritual, but to be wise, informed, and effective in your generation.

Stay focused. Stay disciplined. And above all, stay hungry for knowledge.
