Pastor Chris ignites controversy with his claim that no biblical promises apply to Christians, triggering wide debate. |
In a deeply thought-provoking teaching, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has sparked theological debate with his bold declaration: “There is not a single promise in the Bible for a Christian today.” According to him, this common belief is a misunderstanding of the new creation reality.
Speaking to his audience, Pastor Chris challenged believers who often refer to the "promises of God," asking them to identify any one that still applies today. “Which promise?” he asked repeatedly. “Many are trying to claim promises that are no longer applicable because they’ve already been fulfilled in Christ.”
He pointed to scriptures like Psalm 37:4, which says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” But he emphasized that this is Old Testament language—advisory, not doctrinal for the New Testament believer. “That’s like raising a child and telling them a proverb,” he said. “It’s not your reality in Christ.”
Pastor Chris explained that Christians are not supposed to live with a mindset of “trying to get” things from God, as if promises are pending fulfillment. He said:
“When you came into Christ, you inherited everything. You are a joint heir with Christ. What are you still asking for? There's nothing left for Him to give.”

He also dismissed common interpretations around promises like Jesus sending the Holy Spirit or returning for the Church. Referring to John 14:16, where Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be with them forever, Pastor Chris clarified that this was a promise to the disciples—before the Holy Spirit was given. “That promise has already been fulfilled,” he said. “Now, we are inseparably united with the Holy Spirit. We don’t look forward to Him being with us—He lives in us permanently.”
Regarding the second coming of Christ, Pastor Chris added that the Church will not be waiting to be taken, but rather will return with Christ. “We’re going to be caught away from here first—transformed. Then, we’ll come back with Him,” he explained.
