Tempers flared in Parliament on June 3, 2025, as Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga publicly challenged Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over a broken promise to bring Ken Ofori-Atta before the House to address mounting corruption allegations.

“You promised to produce Ken Ofori-Atta in May. We are well into the month of June. Where is he?” Ayariga demanded during an impassioned address to fellow lawmakers.

Ayariga further accused the Minority Leader of making unreliable assurances in Parliament, suggesting a pattern of unfulfilled commitments.

“Perhaps, we should not be taking his promises into account because he never honours them but rather insists on others fulfilling their promises,” he added.

This parliamentary clash comes as former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta remains abroad, failing to respond to an in-person summons from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The OSP has since declared him wanted, with an Interpol Red Notice issued and extradition processes reportedly underway.

Ofori-Atta is implicated in a series of alleged corruption scandals involving:

০ A controversial ambulance procurement deal,

The SML-GRA revenue assurance contract, and

Questionable financial losses during his tenure.

The verbal showdown between the Majority and Minority leadership further intensifies the political drama surrounding Ofori-Atta’s legal troubles. The Majority is now pressuring the Minority to take responsibility for what they call empty assurances, while the opposition continues to defend its stance amid what it claims is politically motivated persecution of the former minister.
