The serene community of Edwenase in the Ashanti Region was plunged into mourning on Sunday, July 13, 2025, following the tragic death of 28-year-old nurse, Akosua Adutwuwaa, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in what is believed to be a suicide.

According to her grieving mother, Akosua showed no signs of distress prior to the incident. She had woken up early, completed her household chores, and even prepared porridge for her two-year-old daughter. As the family got ready for church between 7 and 8 a.m., they realized she was missing.

Their search ended in heartbreak when they discovered her lifeless body in one of the rooms of their home. A white rope was tied around her neck, and she had reportedly used a ceiling fan to end her life.

The news has rocked Edwenase to its core, with residents describing Akosua as a quiet, dedicated, and hardworking nurse who served the Kokofu Government Hospital with compassion and excellence. The hospital management issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over her passing and pledged to offer psychological support to staff.

“She was a devoted healthcare worker, a kind soul, and a loving mother. This tragedy has left a void in our team,” hospital authorities said.

“This tragedy shows the importance of checking in on even the strongest among us,” wrote one colleague on X (formerly Twitter).

Perhaps the most heart-wrenching aspect of this tragedy is the fate of Akosua’s two-year-old daughter, who will now grow up without her mother. Community members are rallying to provide emotional and financial support to the family.

Her body has been transferred to Pramso Hospital for a post-mortem examination, as police continue their investigation to determine any additional factors surrounding the incident.
