Relatives of Ghana’s highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, have disclosed that the late musician, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, left behind eleven (11) children with four (4) different women. The revelation was made during a family visit to the Manhyia Palace to officially break the news of his death to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.
According to the family spokesperson, while Daddy Lumba was globally admired for his musical career, he was equally a caring and present father.
“He cherished every one of his children,” the spokesperson said. “Though they were from different mothers, he ensured they all experienced his love and direction.”
The family explained that the children remain united and will play important roles in the forthcoming funeral rites. They also emphasized that one of the musician’s enduring wishes was for his children to remain together even after his passing.
“He often told them, ‘Don’t let fame or differences separate you. Always remain as one family,’” the spokesperson added.
Daddy Lumba shot to fame in the 1980s and went on to become a towering figure in Ghana’s music scene. Over three decades, he released numerous hit songs, captivating audiences with his distinct voice and lyrical style, and shaping the course of modern highlife music.
Tributes have continued to flow in from across Ghana and abroad, with fans and musicians alike mourning his loss while celebrating his musical legacy. A fan in Kumasi reflected, “We grew up on Daddy Lumba’s songs. His music will never fade.”
The family, however, has appealed for privacy as they prepare funeral arrangements and assured that burial details will be made public soon.
“To many, he was a music legend, but to us, he was love itself,” the family said. “We are thankful for the prayers and support we are receiving.”
