Senyo Hosi of the One Ghana Movement and the Media Coalition Against Galamsey has issued a blistering critique of President John Dramani Mahama, declaring him “the most incompetent president in Ghana’s history.”
Hosi accused Mahama of presiding over a regime that has failed to confront the menace of galamsey, a failure that has left rivers poisoned, farmlands destroyed, and millions of livelihoods under threat. He described illegal mining as a “national emergency,” not a partisan football, and warned that Ghanaians would lose all hope if decisive leadership does not emerge immediately.
In a video posted by Joy News on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Hosi stressed that the devastation caused by galamsey is visible everywhere rivers have turned brown and toxic, mercury and other heavy metals are seeping into food crops, and communities across the country are watching their natural heritage vanish before their eyes.
Yet, instead of tackling the crisis head-on, Mahama’s administration has reduced the fight to political rhetoric, offering no real solutions. Hosi insisted that piecemeal regulations and cosmetic enforcement actions will achieve nothing, stressing that what is required is bold, decisive governance that places the survival of the nation above partisan calculations.
Hosi further argued that the president’s weakness has emboldened illegal miners and their powerful political backers, making the situation even more dangerous. He pointed to the rising turbidity levels of water bodies, the destruction of cocoa farms, and the collapse of local fishing economies as proof that Ghana is heading toward disaster under Mahama’s watch.

This is no longer about politics; it is about national survival,” Hosi declared, adding that history will not forgive a leader who watched silently as the nation’s lifeblood was destroyed. By failing to act, Mahama, in his view, has already etched his name in history as Ghana’s most incapable and indifferent leader.
