Akufo Addo's Appointee Gets Top Appointment In Mahama's Government

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, who was appointed as the Head of Ghana’s Civil Service by former president Akufo Addo, has been sworn in as a member of the Governing Board of the Audit Service.

This was announced by the Ghana Civil Service in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Thursday, 2nd October, 2025.

The ceremony took place at the Jubilee House in Accra and brought together top government officials, members of the Audit Service, and other invited guests.

Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh, who was originally appointed as Head of the Civil Service by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, continues to hold an influential role under President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

His new position on the Governing Board of the Audit Service has been described by many as a significant appointment that shows continuity and unity in Ghana’s governance system.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted with a sense of dignity and respect for the office. Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who presided over the event, praised Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh for his years of experience in public service and expressed confidence that his expertise would contribute to strengthening accountability and transparency in the public sector.

In his speech, Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh promised to work hard with other board members to ensure that the Audit Service delivers on its mandate of promoting financial discipline and good governance across all state institutions. He emphasized that transparency in the use of public funds is crucial for Ghana’s progress and development.

Political observers have described this appointment as remarkable because it highlights the spirit of inclusiveness in President Mahama’s administration. By retaining and appointing individuals who served under the previous government, the current administration shows a commitment to continuity and professionalism over partisanship.

This new role is expected to give Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh an even greater platform to influence reforms in the civil and public service, which are crucial for building a more accountable and effective governance system in Ghana.
