Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is dead.
Sources close to the family indicate that the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings had been unwell for some time and was under close medical care before her death.
However, details surrounding her passing remain undisclosed, as neither her family nor hospital authorities have released an official statement.
During her two-decade tenure as First Lady, from 1981 to 2001, Nana Konadu played a transformative role in national development, dedicating much of her work to improving the lives of Ghanaian women.
In 1982, she founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, which empowered women through entrepreneurship, education, and active participation in governance.
Beyond her influence as First Lady, she later became the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), continuing her legacy of political engagement and social advocacy.
Her most recent public appearance was on August 13, 2025, when she joined her children at the Jubilee House Ceremonial Garden to lay a wreath in memory of eight public servants who perished in a helicopter c,rash, a moment that now stands as one of her final tributes to public service.
