A disturbing case of mob violence has been reported in Ghana’s Eastern Region, where a local pastor named Kofi Adjei was beaten to death by residents after being allegedly caught with a married woman in an inappropriate situation. The incident has stirred outrage and sorrow within the small community.
Sources revealed that the pastor and the woman had been engaged in a secret affair for some time before their actions were discovered. Suspicious residents who had been monitoring their movements reportedly followed them to an abandoned structure on the outskirts of town, where they were found together.
According to witnesses, three women who came across the pair raised an alarm, prompting an angry crowd to gather. What began as public outrage soon turned violent, as the mob descended on the pastor, ignoring pleas from bystanders to stop the assault. He died from the beating before law enforcement could arrive.
The area’s traditional ruler, Nana Kwaku Badu, condemned the lynching and called it a “terrible act” that tarnishes the community’s image. “Regardless of the offence, no one should take justice into their own hands,” he said solemnly.
The woman involved reportedly escaped before the crowd attacked and is now wanted by police. The deceased pastor, who oversaw a small local church, had lived peacefully in the town for several years before the incident.
Authorities have launched a full investigation and appealed to residents to assist in tracking down those who took part in the assault. The pastor’s body has been taken to the Koforidua Government Hospital for autopsy, while efforts to locate the missing woman and the suspects are ongoing.
