According to reports by Joy News On Tuesday 21st October 2025, Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has announced that the government’s 2026 national budget will mainly focus on fiscal discipline and job creation. He explained that the government wants to manage the country’s money carefully while creating more employment opportunities for Ghanaians, especially young people.
According to Mr. Ampem, fiscal discipline means that the government will spend wisely and avoid unnecessary borrowing. In past years, Ghana faced challenges with high debt and budget deficits, which made it harder to invest in important areas like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The Deputy Minister said that in 2026, the government will continue to reduce waste, collect taxes more effectively, and make sure that every cedi is used to improve people’s lives.
He also stated that job creation is a key part of the new budget. Many Ghanaians, especially the youth, struggle to find decent jobs after school. The government plans to support businesses that can hire more workers, such as those in agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. There will also be special programmes to train young people with practical skills in areas like digital technology, construction, and small business management.

Mr. Ampem explained that a strong economy depends not only on big financial numbers but also on the ability of ordinary people to earn a living. When citizens have jobs and stable incomes, they can support their families and contribute to national development.
He added that the Ministry of Finance is working closely with other ministries, private businesses, and development partners to design projects that will create long-term opportunities. The government will also continue its economic reforms to make the economy more stable and attractive to investors.
The 2026 Budget is expected to be presented to Parliament in November 2025. The Deputy Minister encouraged citizens to stay hopeful, saying that the government’s goal is to build a stronger, fairer economy where every Ghanaian has a chance to succeed.
