A significant number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Ghana’s Western Region have voiced strong opposition to a proposal by former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong — a proposal that has stirred deep emotions within the party ranks.

During former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s "Thank You" tour in Takoradi, Kennedy Agyapong shocked many when he publicly appealed for the party to show mercy to key figures who had either defected or been suspended, including former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and ex-National Chairman Paul Afoko.

"No way! This cannot happen," an angry supporter yelled in response.

Many party faithful were quick to label defectors as "saboteurs and traitors," refusing to entertain the idea of reinstating individuals who, in their view, betrayed the NPP when it mattered most.

A female supporter didn’t mince her words:

"How can anyone who means well for the NPP suggest that we should bring back people who stood against our party and were rightly suspended?"

A constituency executive also criticized Kennedy Agyapong sharply:

"I totally disagree with Ken, and he should stop this because it is making some of us angry. These are traitors, and we cannot grant them amnesty."

Highlighting the depth of betrayal felt by many, another supporter cited Alan Kyerematen’s actions:

"He left the party twice, contested our primaries, then formed a new movement and even campaigned with the NDC against us."

As the 2024 election aftermath and 2025 political realignments continue to unfold, tensions within the NPP are clearly far from over — and forgiveness, it seems, remains a hard sell among the base.
