Dr. Louisa Bissiw lashes out at Trobu MP for downplaying Mahama’s commitment to 
women’s empowerment.

Dr Louisa Hannah Bissiw, the National Women’s Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has fiercely defended former President John Dramani Mahama against accusations made by Trobu MP Gloria Owusu.

Speaking during an interview on Neat FM on April 25, 2025, Dr Bissiw dismissed claims that Mahama dislikes women — a claim made by Owusu following the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo.

“Mahama is one of the most supportive leaders when it comes to empowering women, far more than any other president in Ghana’s history,” Dr Bissiw stated.

She highlighted major milestones under Mahama's administration, noting that he:

• Appointed the first female Vice President (via his running mate choice),

• Nominated a woman as Minister for Justice and Attorney General,

• Appointed the first female Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

Dr Bissiw didn’t mince words about the Trobu MP’s comments:
