Four suspects arrested after deadly clash over sand-winning in Asiyaw; police intensify investigation into the fatal Nsawam shooting. |
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has made significant strides in a fatal shooting investigation that shook the town of Asiyaw, near Akwane-Dobro in the Nsawam area, after five people lost their lives in a brutal confrontation allegedly linked to illegal sand-winning activities.
The incident, which occurred on April 29, 2025, has sparked widespread concern across the Eastern Region and prompted urgent police action.
👮 Police Arrest Four Suspects From Hideouts
After swift investigations, police tracked down and arrested four individuals believed to be directly connected to the shooting. The suspects were identified as:
👉 Samuel Atsu Forson, also known as Alanyo
👉 Freeheart Kweku Sedonu
👉 Kwesi Prince
👉 Benjamin Adzalekor
These individuals were apprehended from different hideouts as authorities intensified efforts to resolve the growing security threat in the area.
In a formal statement issued on May 2, 2025, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that the four suspects were arraigned before the Osino District Court.
The court remanded Samuel Atsu Forson, Freeheart Kweku Sedonu, and Kwesi Prince into prison custody, while Benjamin Adzalekor was placed in police custody for further interrogation.
All four suspects are expected to reappear in court on May 8, 2025, as investigations continue.
“The suspects will be taken through the due process of the law,” the police stated firmly, signaling their intent to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
The police noted that the violence stemmed from a territorial dispute between two rival groups allegedly involved in unauthorized sand-winning operations. Sand-winning, though vital to the construction industry, has become a contentious and often lawless business, with repeated incidents of violence, land degradation, and environmental abuse reported across Ghana.
This latest tragedy further underscores the urgent need for regulation, enforcement, and community engagement to curb the dangerous rise in sand-related disputes.
The Eastern South Regional Police remain on high alert and have called on community members to assist with any additional information that could aid investigations. Security has been heightened in the Nsawam area to prevent retaliation or further clashes.
