Ghanaian student deported by US ICE after child pornography conviction; disturbing materials discovered during investigation. |
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 32-year-old Ghanaian national, Kwadwo Boaitey Frimpong, in connection with child pornography charges, the agency confirmed in a statement on April 29, 2025.
Frimpong, who entered the United States in 2019 on an F-1 student visa to pursue higher education, pleaded guilty to seven counts of possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) earlier this year. His arrest is part of a broader immigration enforcement push under the Trump administration, which has re-emphasized strict action against non-citizen offenders.
According to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a tip-off from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in April 2024 triggered a detailed probe into Frimpong's Google account. Investigators discovered highly disturbing material uploaded and stored online.
A subsequent search of his Maryland residence uncovered a personal laptop containing over 2,000 explicit images and more than 100 videos involving infants and toddlers. Officials described the evidence as “extremely graphic and disturbing,” underlining the seriousness of the charges.

Frimpong was sentenced on March 13, 2025, to 24 months in federal prison, with 12 months credited for time already served. In addition, he was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to victims identified in the content.
Following his sentencing, ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) unit in Baltimore arrested Frimpong on April 29, 2025. The operation, captured on video, shows officers informing Frimpong of his arrest and placing him in handcuffs.
“Frimpong will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of removal proceedings,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
This case marks one of the more high-profile arrests in what the Trump administration calls a renewed commitment to “protecting American communities from criminal aliens.” Critics argue that while the crime is unquestionably heinous, the administration may use such cases to justify wider immigration crackdowns.
As of publication, the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington, D.C. has not released an official statement regarding the arrest or potential repatriation of Frimpong.
He was here on an F-1 student visa, then was charged with (and pled guilty to) child pornography.
